Project background

In 2013/2014, a pond surrounded by marshes and agricultural land was cleared of explosive ordnance on the site of the former Hillersleben army research station as a rebalancing measure on an area of 136,500 m2. Surface sounding and recovery,

water sounding, clearing, desludging and demolition of the pond took place and the area was subsequently restored with the construction of new ponds. 1045 shells and 561 kg of munition scrap were recovered during the project.
